A 28-year-old man from La Vernia, Texas, died Monday morning, and another person was critically injured after the pickup truck they were traveling in crashed head-on with an 18-wheeler. The accident occurred on State Highway 46 South near the Guadalupe River Bridge.
First responders were called to the scene around 7:52 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle collision. The vehicles involved were a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck and a 2007 Freightliner hauling a belly dump trailer. The cab of the big rig caught fire, forcing the closure of the roadway for several hours.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Daniel, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured passenger, identified as 24-year-old Jeremy, was transported to University Hospital. Authorities are investigating the crash to determine the cause.
According to officials, the 18-wheeler was heading east when the pickup truck crossed the center line. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the pickup truck crossing the center line.
Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident, a spokesperson said. “It is currently under investigation,” official stated. Traffic was diverted while crews worked at the scene. The wreckage of the pickup truck was severely damaged.
“We had to secure the area for scene safety, they had to remove the wreckage of the vehicles, and the scene had to be documented,” the spokesperson said. Investigators are working to gather evidence to determine the cause of the collision.
