Flexis Promises Smart Electric Vans with Extended Range
Flexis, a joint venture established in 2024, backed by Renault, the Volvo Group, and logistics giant CMA CGM, has revealed details of its upcoming electric van models. These vehicles are designed to offer a range of up to 450 kilometers (WLTP). Series production is planned to commence in 2026, with DB Schenker, Colis Privé, and HIVED already named as initial customers.

Flexis was created with the goal of developing a new generation of innovative electric vans. Renault, the Volvo Group (not to be confused with Volvo Cars), and CMA CGM are the shareholders, with the automotive manufacturers holding a 90% stake in the venture. Production will take place at an existing Renault facility in Normandy, beginning in 2026.
This week marked the first time the joint venture provided an interim update on its development and preparations. According to the report, Flexis has invested €350 million in research and development. The core of their design is an EV-only skateboard platform housing all powertrain components.
While Flexis is still keeping some technical specifications under wraps, they have highlighted several key features: a range of up to 450 kilometers, positioning them competitively in the market.
Three Models Planned
Initially, Flexis will offer three distinct van models based on the electric skateboard platform:
Step-in Van
The Step-in Van, as the name suggests, is designed to allow employees to stand upright in the cargo area, with an interior loading space height of 1.9 meters. Visuals suggest that its height exceeds its width. Although Flexis hasn’t released exact dimensions, the access is via sliding side doors and a rear roller door. The driver can also access the cargo area from the cabin. This model is classified as a medium-sized van, which typically means it falls into the 2.8-tonne weight class.

Panel Van
A key advantage, particularly for the Panel Van, is its turning circle. Flexis’s vans are “25 centimetres shorter than traditional light commercial vehicles,” and the turning circle is 10.3 meters. The Panel Van is described as exceptionally well-suited for urban environments and offers excellent maneuverability. The vehicle’s overall height is 1.90 meters, making it compatible with underground parking and garages.

Flexis states that their vans are “300 kg lighter” than similar vehicles converted from existing combustion engine platforms, such as the Ford E-Transit Custom or electric Stellantis vans. The load volume hasn’t been specified for any of the three models, but visually, the Panel Van appears to be a modern take on the classic VW Transporter.
Cargo Van
The Cargo Van is the third model, purpose-built for last-mile urban deliveries. It features a customizable box that can accommodate different widths, heights, and loading areas. It is also optimized for modular solutions, allowing for features such as refrigerated compartments.

Technical Details and Market Strategy
While specific details on the electric drive are still limited, Flexis has revealed that diverse battery options and power levels will be available. A sketch in the press kit suggests the electric motor is positioned towards the rear, attributed to an innovative rear axle design. A photograph of the motor indicates a power output of “150 kW.”
The skateboard platform’s flat design allows for horizontal battery placement in the underbody. The system voltage will be 800 volts, which should enable rapid charging. Flexis reports that the battery can achieve an 80% charge in under 20 minutes. The WLTP range of 450 kilometers is a significant figure for medium-sized vans.
The logistics sector has already expressed its interest. Flexis has secured ten letters of intent with logistics providers in France, the UK, and Germany, anticipating “a potential demand of 15,000 vehicles in the next 3 years.” The company has named Colis Privé (France), HIVED (UK), and DB Schenker (Germany) within this agreement. These companies have also been providing input to help optimise the vehicles according to operational demands.
The Flexis platform is intended to incorporate integrated software solutions and digital services alongside the hardware. They aim to offer “a fully connected van platform that combines cutting-edge technology with adaptable fleet management solutions.” The underlying E/E architecture is derived from Renault subsidiary Ampere. Customers can access the “FlexE Connect” central digital platform and benefit from a customer operations center. Service support will be provided through the Renault and Volvo Group networks.
Flexis will directly sell its vehicles to logistics providers and fleet managers, as well as supply them to the Renault Group and Renault Trucks. These companies will then distribute the vans under their own branding through their existing sales networks. The company is currently testing “20 representative prototypes.”
Philippe Divry, CEO of Flexis, is optimistic about the commercial prospects of the vehicles. He stated, “Our mission at Flexis is to support and accelerate the electrification of the urban logistics industry, which is looking to operate more sustainably, improve profitability and improve the operations security and safety for drivers in a sector that continues to grow…a solution that is 100% electric, 100% connected, 100% customisable and 100 % designed for cities.”
Pierre Sirolli, Head of Flexis Services and Solutions, spoke about the connectivity features of the van, saying, “Through the data connectivity of the Flexis vehicles and a team of experts, we offer personalised recommendations to improve our clients’ overall operations, offering solutions like delivery route optimisation, significantly reducing vehicle breakdowns through preventive and predictive maintenance, securing the charging of the vehicles and with uninterrupted advisory support we create and implement actions to resolve any setbacks.”
The Flexis vans are set to be produced at the Sandouville plant in Normandy, starting in 2026, the same facility where the Renault Trafic and its electric counterpart are already assembled. The alliance among Renault, Volvo Group and CMA CGM aims to combine their distinct strengths. Renault provides expertise in electric vehicles, software, and light commercial vehicle production. The Volvo Group will contribute in transport solutions and service. CMA CGM will offer logistics expertise including decarbonisation of supply chains.
Update: Model Names Revealed

As of February 11, 2025, Renault has announced the model names for the three Flexis electric vans. They include the Estafette, Goelette and Trafic. The Flexis Trafic is meant to replace the electric version of the Renault Trafic. The Goelette E-Tech Electric is the customizable cargo van. The Estafette, similar in size similar to the Trafic, is designed to deal with City traffic. Its height of 2.60 meters allows for space within the cargo area.
