Toyota has unveiled a teaser of a new, as-yet-unnamed EV pickup truck, generating excitement and speculation within the automotive world. This reveal has prompted talk that the new truck could become a serious competitor to the Tesla Cybertruck. The teaser follows the unveiling of the EPU concept in 2023.
The news of the upcoming EV truck came during a European media event, where other new vehicles were launched for the upcoming year. The silhouette of the truck has captured the imagination of auto enthusiasts, prompting speculation about the model and potential features and specifications.

Electric pickup trucks are experiencing an upsurge in popularity, and every major automotive brand is vying for a share of the market. Toyota is known for building reliable vehicles, and the company is no stranger to catering to diverse budgets, with models ranging from the Supra all the way to the Corolla. The company has already unveiled a new lineup of cars, and the EV pickup truck is part of its ‘6 by 2026’ plan.
Although details about the forthcoming EV pickup truck remain limited at this moment, the teaser image is clear enough to give some hint to the design. Knowing how rapidly automotive technology is progressing, Toyota’s new truck could be a serious contender in the EV market.
Addressing the planned new releases, Yoshihiro Nakata, the President of Toyota Motor Europe, stated, “These next three cars will focus on enhancing customer lifestyle just as powerfully as they enhance carbon neutrality goals.” Adding to the anticipation, he then asked the audience, “Can you guess what they might be?”
The new truck might be an evolution of the electric concept shown in 2023 or even a Tacoma, a model praised by car enthusiasts and known to be a survivor as it even survived California wildfires. During the unveiling of the EPU, it was revealed as a five-seater and more than five meters long. Toyota itself describes the concept as offering battery-operated quietness ‘accompanied by packaging with a low centre [sic] of gravity for superior handling stability and comfort.’ Furthermore, the EPU is designed to ‘accommodate diverse user preferences’ and cater to a variety of lifestyles, indicating a versatile design.

The news of the new EV truck comes after Toyota executives took to the stage at the European media event, during the Plenary session.
How does the new Toyota EV truck compare to the Cybertruck? We all know the Cybertruck’s distinct look, with its futuristic silver doors and angular front end, making it an excellent vehicle for traversing difficult terrains or towing heavy loads from place to place.

If Toyota truly intends its new offering to compete in the same market, this could usher in an exciting period of competition for the EV truck market. As the industry awaits more information about the EV pickup truck, anticipation continues to build in anticipation of this new entrant.
