Technological innovation is critical for India’s development, according to Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva.

This statement was made during the valedictory ceremony of a five-day workshop, “EV Saksham: Electric Vehicle Design and Development,” organized by the Mechanical Department, UIET, Kurukshetra University. The workshop highlighted the growing importance of electric vehicles (EVs) as the government aims to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030, increasing the demand for EVs.

Sachdeva noted that EVs have significantly fewer components than fossil fuel vehicles – roughly 20 compared to 2,000. During the event, he inspected two EV formula racing cars constructed by UIET students, emphasizing the opportunities for students to learn about the latest technology. He encouraged young students to pursue start-ups and become job providers rather than job seekers. He also inspected the Wolf 2.0 adventure car.

UIET Director Sunil Dhingra spoke about the Society of Automotive Engineers, and Dr. Vishal Ahlawat presented a detailed report outlining the workshop’s activities and achievements.

During the workshop, students utilized waste materials to build a Formula EV vehicle. A team of 32 students managed all aspects of the project, including design, battery integration, pipe cutting, installation, and brake and tire systems. The vehicle’s construction cost approximately Rs 1 lakh.
