Top Electric Vans for 2025
Electric vans have come a long way in a short time. Initially, a few years ago, they were often considered a niche option. Now, as manufacturers launch their second generation of electric vans they are becoming increasingly practical for a much wider variety of uses. They are great alternatives to diesel vans. They are clean and efficient, and can dramatically reduce running costs when charged appropriately.
Advancements in battery technology are also leading to increasing payloads, which resolves a previous problem with electric vans. However, there are still vehicles that miss the mark, so we have compiled a list of the best electric vans available in the UK to help you make an informed decision.
Here are some of the top electric vans available:
- Ford E-Transit Custom
- Toyota Proace City Electric
- Citroen e-Berlingo/Peugeot e-Partner/Vauxhall Combo Electric/Fiat E-Doblo
- Ford E-Transit
- Toyota Proace Electric
- Citroen e-Dispatch/Peugeot e-Expert/Vauxhall Vivaro Electric/Fiat E-Scudo
- Renault Kangoo E-Tech/Nissan Townstar
- Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo
- Maxus eDeliver 3
- Mercedes eSprinter
Ford E-Transit Custom

The Ford Transit Custom is a favourite diesel van, so it is no surprise that the Ford E-Transit Custom is also a great choice. It has a range of 209 miles on a complete charge, making it suitable for both local deliveries and longer journeys. It offers excellent performance and an easy driving style. The E-Transit Custom can carry more than a ton depending on the model and incorporates thoughtful design features such as a flat floor in the cab, a modern dashboard featuring a touchscreen, and optional plug sockets in the rear, which allow you to power tools using the traction battery.
Toyota Proace City Electric

The Toyota Proace City Electric is built on the same platform as the group of Stellantis vehicles. However, it ranks higher due to its aftercare, a key consideration for many business owners. Toyota’s network of professional centres is regarded highly, and the brand’s ‘Relax’ warranty provides up to 10 years of coverage. This is particularly appealing for those who are unsure about switching from reliable diesel vans. It offers over 200 miles of range, a good payload, and a comfortable interior with smartphone connectivity.
Citroen e-Berlingo/Peugeot e-Partner/Vauxhall Combo Electric/Fiat E-Doblo

Similar to the Toyota, these four electric vans are excellent choices. With only three years of warranty coverage, they fall slightly behind. For those already invested in one of these manufacturers and for whom a local dealer or service centre is key, the Citroen, Peugeot, Vauxhall or Fiat models will all perform consistently. They are all excellent small electric vans.
Ford E-Transit

Building an electric large van is challenging. Most models need to compromise with a small battery to provide a decent payload with a poor range. The E-Transit finds a good balance. With a distance of 196 miles on a full charge, it is ideal for local deliveries and easy to drive in a town or city. It is also a Transit, a practical, smart van with a nationwide network of van centres.
Toyota Proace Electric

Like its smaller counterpart, the Proace Electric is built on the same platform as the Stellantis group models mentioned above. Which model is best suited for a buyer comes down to brand preference and the best deal available. Toyota still comes out on top, as its warranty is superior to the others. The van itself is comfortable to drive, with a choice of 50kWh or 75kWh batteries, offering a range of 132 or 214 miles. Recent improvements to the range have expanded the range to additional trim levels and a longer wheelbase for larger loads. It is not as practical or as good to drive compared to the E-Transit Custom.
Citroen e-Dispatch/Peugeot e-Expert/Vauxhall Vivaro Electric/Fiat E-Scudo
These vans are identical to the Toyota, all with different warranties and network options.
Renault Kangoo E-Tech/Nissan Townstar

With a maximum range of 186 miles, the Kangoo E-Tech is not as large or as powerful as some of the smaller Stella models. The E-Tech however is very easy to drive thanks to its more car-like dimensions and is very well-suited for driving around tight city streets. It has a thoughtfully designed interior, and is well-priced. Note that some loading kit available in left-hand drive models is not available in the UK. The Nissan Townstar models are the same, with different branding.
Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo

The ID Buzz is a practical choice for those who prioritise a stylish van. It offers a great driving range and offers a fun driving experience. While the cab can feel a little cramped, it is otherwise a great choice. If style matters and there are no major needs for heavy loads, it is a practical choice.
Maxus eDeliver 3

The Maxus eDeliver 3 is a very practical and cost-effective electric van. It may lack visual appeal, but the low price point makes it an attractive option. Although the maximum range is 151 miles, it is still a great option for those in the market for an electric van. It offers a surprisingly competent option.
Mercedes eSprinter

The Mercedes eSprinter is a popular choice among large fleets. It has become incredibly popular as it offers a comprehensive aftercare package, a large-battery model with a great range, and a very comfortable interior. The high price and the payload are drawbacks, yet for large electric vans, this remains a great option.
