    Mercedes-Benz Goes Electric With the 2026 CLA-Class

Editor’s note: This story was updated March 19, 2025, reflecting the latest DC fast-charging time for all CLA models, which has been confirmed at 22 minutes.

In an industry that’s rapidly evolving, Mercedes-Benz is joining the trend of offering electric versions alongside traditional gasoline-powered models. Following the lead of competitors like BMW, the new 2026 CLA-Class will be available in both all-electric and internal combustion engine variants, built on the same platform.

What Are the 2026 CLA’s Performance Specs?

Scheduled to go on sale later this year, the 2026 CLA will initially be offered as fully electric vehicles with hybrid options to follow. In a slight departure from the brand’s existing EV naming convention (EQE, EQS), the electric CLA-Class will mimic the G-Wagen EV by foregoing the “EQ” prefix for its primary model designations.

The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version will be known as the CLA250+ with EQ Technology, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model will be titled the CLA350 4Matic with EQ Technology.

The CLA250+ is equipped with a 268-horsepower electric motor that delivers 247 pounds-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The 350 adds a motor to the front axle, providing AWD and a combined output of 349 hp and 380 pounds-feet of torque. Both models include a two-speed automatic transmission, a less common feature in EVs, designed to optimize both performance and efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz claims the CLA250+ with EQ Technology can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, while the 350 4Matic achieves the same speed in just 4.8 seconds. EPA-rated range estimates are still pending finalization. However, the manufacturer reveals that the CLA’s 85-kilowatt-hour battery pack offers 20% higher energy density than previous designs. The sedan’s 800-volt electrical architecture supports fast charging up to 320 kilowatts at a DC fast charger, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 22 minutes.

What Does the 2026 CLA Look Like?

(Information on the vehicle’s appearance will be added in a later update.)
