COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 54-year-old woman died Wednesday night after being hit by a pickup truck on US Highway 441 in Columbia County, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported.
According to troopers, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near NW Quinten Street. A 37-year-old man from Lake City was driving a northbound Ford F350 when the vehicle struck the woman, who was in the north lane of the highway.
The driver reportedly made a U-turn after the collision and remained at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a seat belt and did not sustain any injuries.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The FHP is currently conducting an investigation into the fatal incident.
