Karma Automotive has announced the release of the Amaris, an all-new extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) coupe. This model marks a significant step for the luxury automaker as it re-embraces the EREV technology that played a key role in the company’s original vision, with the Fisker Karma being one of the world’s first EREVs.

The Amaris expands Karma Automotive’s current lineup, which includes the Gyesera and Kaveya, and it signifies Karma’s renewed focus on EREVs. This technology provides a blend of an all-electric driving experience with the added assurance of an internal combustion engine (ICE) to extend range. Karma’s shift back to EREVs responds to consumer demands for the combined benefits of both technologies.

Essentially, the Amaris is a two-door version of the Revero with styling cues inspired by the Kaveya and Gyesera models. The Amaris retains the Revero’s low-slung stance. Outside, the Amaris incorporates a design derived from the Gyesera and Kaveya, including headlights and a clamshell hood.

This design incorporates the Revero’s lightweight, aluminum spaceframe, with enhancements to accommodate the shorter wheelbase. The body panels consist of aluminum and carbon fiber, aiding in weight reduction. The Amaris also features unique “swan doors” that open upwards.

At the rear, the Amaris features a fastback roofline, reminiscent of the Maserati GranTurismo, contributing to the vehicle’s overall aesthetic. The Amaris utilizes a design similar to the Revero’s trunk shape, with angular tweaks and a pronounced lower diffuser, thus helping aerodynamics.

The Amaris, even though listed as a near-production-ready concept, is expected to have an EREV system with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine would serve to revitalize the Amaris’ electric battery system while driving. Performance targets include 0-60 mph in around 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of about 165 mph. Production is expected to begin by the fourth quarter of 2026, and pricing details have yet to be announced.

Marques McCammon, President of Karma Automotive, emphasizes the automaker’s commitment to EREV technology. He stated, “Karma Automotive remains at the forefront of EREV powertrains, and believes now more than ever that the freedom of refueling either with gasoline or electricity is ideally suited to the marketplace. With our gorgeous Amaris 2-door coupe and soon-to-be-revealed Gyesera 4-door, we’re building a range of vehicles that will deliver exceptional EV torque and performance paired with worry-free cruising range, a combination that only EREV can deliver.”
