Denza N9 Enters Luxury SUV Arena
Denza, the premium brand under BYD, has officially launched its N9 hybrid SUV, positioning itself as a contender in the large luxury SUV market. Unveiled at an event in Shenzhen, the vehicle boasts impressive performance figures and advanced technology, setting its sights on rivals like Li Auto’s Li L9 and Aito’s M9.
The N9 is a six-seat hybrid SUV, with generous dimensions. It measures 5,258 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width, and 1,830 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. This places it squarely in the segment occupied by competitors such as the Li L9 and the Aito M9.

Competitive Pricing and Variants
Denza offers the N9 in two variants, priced at RMB 389,800 yuan ($53,770) and RMB 449,800 yuan, respectively. This pricing strategy undercuts the pre-sales price range originally announced in February, making the vehicle more competitive within its segment. For comparison, the Li L9 starts at RMB 409,800, and the Aito M9 begins at RMB 469,800.
Performance and Technology
The Denza N9 utilizes BYD’s e3 technology, enabling rapid acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. The e3 technology is essentially a scaled-down version of BYD’s e4 technology, which is used in ultra-luxury cars. It features three independent electric motors and rear-wheel steering.
The N9’s powertrain includes a 2.0 T engine generating a maximum power of 152 kW. Electric motors provide a combined output of 680 kW. The SUV is equipped with a 47-kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC battery range of 200 kilometers. When fully fueled and charged, the combined range can exceed 1,300 kilometers.
The N9 is equipped with BYD’s DiSus-A body control system, which enhances its ride quality. Its smart driving capabilities are powered by BYD’s God’s Eye B system and the DiPilot 300 smart driving solution. The smart functionality includes technologies such as one LiDAR, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 12 cameras that enable NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) in cities and on highways, in addition to valet parking and automated parking capabilities.
Market Presence and Future Outlook
Besides the N9, Denza’s current lineup includes the N7 SUV and D9 MPV. The Denza Z9GT and the Z9 sedan, are other examples of models featuring e3 technology.
According to data compiled by CnEVPost, Denza delivered 8,513 vehicles in February. From January to February, Denza delivered 20,233 vehicles. Denza is aiming for ambitious sales targets, with the goal of selling over 300,000 cars in 2025, according to reports.
