Airstream has officially unveiled its first all-electric travel trailer, the Basecamp 20Xe. Building on the design of the popular Basecamp 20, the 20Xe offers a battery-powered solution for adventurers seeking off-grid capabilities. The new trailer has a starting price of $76,900.

At the heart of the 20Xe is a 10.3-kWh lithium Battle Born battery pack, which powers a fully inverted 30A electrical system. This system provides energy for various amenities, including interior lighting, appliances, and the optional air conditioning and microwave. The trailer also includes a 600W rooftop solar panel, with an optional upgrade to 900W, enabling some level of self-sufficiency.

The 20Xe maintains the same exterior dimensions as the standard Basecamp 20—7 feet, 9.5 inches wide and 20 feet, 2 inches long—with a GVWR of 4500 pounds. This similarity extends to the interior layout, which features convertible sleeping spaces that can accommodate up to four people. The trailer has two fabric options for the interior: Granite Ridge (dark charcoal with light tan accents) or Sandstone Canyon (colors reversed).

Several options are available, including a compostable toilet for eco-conscious travelers, as well as an air conditioner, microwave, and additional solar capacity. A 20-pound propane tank can be used for heating water or the camper itself, as the Truma Combi eco plus system can run on either electricity, propane or both. The trailer has a combination wet bath with a shower, toilet, and sink including a Showermi$er recirculation system and a 23-gallon freshwater tank. A removable single-burner induction cooktop allows for outdoor cooking from any 110-volt outlet. The exterior also includes an optional outdoor shower and various attachment options for tents and awnings.

While the 20Xe represents Airstream’s first mass-market all-electric trailer, the company isn’t new to experimenting with electric camper concepts. The eStream concept, released in 2022, featured two electric motors and a large 80.0 kWh battery. However, the 20Xe differs by being a towable trailer, relying on the tow vehicle’s power while providing its own electrical systems. The 20Xe is designed for easy setup and is intended to bring electric capabilities to the company’s existing customer base.

The Basecamp 20Xe is priced at $76,900. The standard Basecamp model starts at $48,300 for the 16-foot version.
