Airstream has launched its first all-electric travel trailer, the Basecamp 20Xe, signaling a move toward sustainable RVing. The new model combines the iconic Airstream design with modern electric technology.
The Basecamp 20Xe is based on the existing Basecamp 20 model, retaining its dimensions and many of its features. The electric version incorporates a 10.3-kWh lithium Battle Born battery pack, providing power to a 30A electrical system. A 600W rooftop solar panel is standard, with an option to upgrade to 900W, enhancing its off-grid capabilities.
The Basecamp 20Xe also features sleeping space for up to four individuals. Inside, two convertible sleeping areas accommodate the camper’s occupants. Amenities include an optional composting toilet, an air conditioner, and a microwave, amongst other features.
While the Basecamp 20Xe functions solely as a towed unit, Airstream has previously explored electric propulsion with its Thor eStream RV concept. The eStream featured two electric motors and a larger battery capacity.
The 20Xe’s design retains the exterior dimensions of the regular Basecamp 20, measuring 7 feet, 9.5 inches wide and 20 feet, 2.0 inches long, with a GVWR of 4500 pounds, making it a good fit for adventure-seekers.
Additional features include a 3000-watt inverter, a 20-pound propane tank for heating, and a Truma Combi eco plus System for heating and hot water. There is a wet bath setup with a recirculating shower and a 23-gallon fresh-water tank. The kitchen is equipped with a removable single-burner induction cooktop, enabling outdoor use, and buyers can choose from two interior fabric options: Granite Ridge dark charcoal with light tan accents or Sandstone Canyon (colors reversed).
The Basecamp 20Xe starts at $76,900. The standard Basecamp starts at $48,300 for the 16-foot model.
