Johnston County Head-On Collision Results in Minor Injuries Due to Alert Driver
FOUR OAKS, N.C. — A driver’s quick reaction played a critical role in minimizing injuries during a head-on collision in Johnston County on Sunday evening, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the 2400 block of Thompson Road, approximately four miles east of Benson and three miles south of Four Oaks, officials reported.
According to Trooper D.M. Gray, a 73-year-old man driving a Ford 500 passenger car was responsible for the accident after he hit a mailbox and a garbage can before crossing the centerline and striking a pickup truck. Fortunately, neither driver sustained serious injuries, and no one required hospitalization.
“The pick up truck driver swerved before the collision, so that definitely contributed to there not being any real serious injuries,” Gray told CBS 17.
The driver in the Ford was cited for reckless driving. Trooper Gray also indicated that the man was experiencing “mental issues,” and his driver’s license is under review.
Authorities commended the pickup truck driver’s attentiveness, noting that his evasive actions helped prevent a more severe outcome from the accident.
