Alfa Romeo’s boss, Santo Ficili, has revealed plans to introduce a redesigned Stelvio in 2026, aiming to offer both electric and hybrid powertrain options. The announcement signals a significant shift for the Italian automaker, as it transitions towards electrification while maintaining traditional gasoline-powered options.
The redesigned Stelvio, slated for production in Italy, will be built on the STLA Large platform, a versatile architecture also utilized by the Dodge Charger and the Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S models. This platform supports vehicles ranging from 189 to 216.5 inches (4,800 mm – 5,500 mm) in length and can accommodate battery packs up to 118 kWh, providing a potential range of up to 500 miles (800 km).
While specific performance details remain undisclosed, the electric Stelvio Quadrifoglio is anticipated to deliver substantial power. Former CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato had previously mentioned that the Quadrifoglio variant was being developed with a target of 941 hp (702 kW / 954 PS) and the potential for even more, up to 986 hp (736 kW / 1,000 PS).
Ficili also confirmed that the Stelvio will offer a “hybrid gasoline” engine option, indicating a continued commitment to internal combustion engines alongside the brand’s electric push. The Dodge Charger, which shares the STLA Large platform, will be offered with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six engine, providing outputs ranging from 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) to 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS).
Following the launch of the new Stelvio, Alfa Romeo will turn its attention to the Giulia, which is expected to closely resemble the Stelvio in design and share powertrains and technologies. This strategic move underscores Alfa Romeo’s commitment to expanding its electric and hybrid vehicle offerings, while simultaneously maintaining its focus on high-performance models.
