An Amtrak train traveling from New York to Roanoke collided with a pickup truck at a railroad crossing on Bristow Road near Nokesville Road in Prince William County, Virginia, on Tuesday morning. The train, which had 137 passengers and crew members on board, was traveling southbound from Manassas Station when it struck the privately owned vehicle. The driver of the truck was the sole occupant and was seriously injured in the crash.
The impact was severe enough that the truck was mangled and had to be cut apart to free the driver, who was then transported to a regional medical facility. Fortunately, no one on the train was injured. The collision caused significant disruptions to rail service, with the train remaining stationary for five hours while repairs were made to the engine’s plow using a blowtorch.
Xavier Parks, the son of the injured driver, reported that his father was in a lot of pain but was breathing and talking. ‘He’s a strong man — to get hit by an Amtrak train and still be able to talk about it afterward,’ Parks said, acknowledging the extensive damage to his father’s truck. The incident is currently under investigation by local authorities, with information sourced from the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue.
