Human Remains Discovered in Ancaster Garden
Ancaster, a village near Grantham, Lincolnshire, has become the focus of a police investigation after a landscaper discovered human skeletal remains in a garden. Police and forensic teams have been on the scene in Brookside over the weekend following the discovery.
Lincolnshire Police confirmed the find, stating that the origin and age of the bones are currently unknown. “We are investigating after the remains of a human skeleton were discovered in Ancaster earlier today (March 8),” a police spokesperson said. “Officers were called to a property on Brookside Close, where the bones were discovered by members of the public.”
Police have established a presence in the area as investigations continue, with a white tent erected in the garden where the discovery was made. The property is located in a cul-de-sac.
Neighbours expressed surprise and concern. Malcolm Lister, 82, told LincolnshireLive, “This is a quiet area—we know people by sight and one or two by name, other than that everyone keeps themselves to themselves.”
Bill Higgins, 78, noted that the resident had been “sorting out his garden and he has dug up a few bones.”
Another neighbour commented that the resident “started digging last weekend.” The neighbour further added, “I have lived here 16 years and nothing like this has ever happened before.” Some residents speculated that the remains might be of Roman origin, given the village’s historical links.
