Police in Washington, D.C. are investigating an ATM theft that occurred early Tuesday morning. Authorities are searching for a white Ford pickup truck with Maryland tags following the robbery.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle around 5 a.m. in the 5000 block of Georgia Avenue, near a Popeyes restaurant. Upon arrival, officers learned that an Automated Teller Machine had been stolen from a nearby business by multiple armed suspects. The exact number of suspects and the types of weapons used remain under investigation.
The theft reportedly took place at a liquor store. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The vehicle of interest is a white Ford pickup truck with Maryland tags: 5FD0899. It was last seen heading toward North Capitol, with chains visible on the back.
This incident comes after the arrest of three men in connection with a series of ATM robberies that occurred in late January and early February. The suspects, all from D.C., allegedly stole approximately $200,000 from 7-Elevens in Prince George’s County. Police say the men, identified as Jeff Crews, 33, David Jerome Walker, 39, and Maurice Roots, 34, used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the “jaws of life,” to break into the ATMs.
“Crime knows no boundaries, knows no borders,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy during a press conference. “And so we have to continue to work not only collaboratively with each other here in Prince George’s County but within this region to ensure that individuals are fully held accountable.”
