Introduction
The Audi A6 Avant is launching with a new platform, new hardware, and a fresh design. While Volvo may be rethinking its estate car lineup, Audi is doubling down on the Avant, introducing the latest generation as an estate first, with the saloon to follow later.
Globally, just over half of A6s are specified as saloons, but in Europe, the estate is the dominant form. The A6’s role has evolved over the past five decades, as buyers increasingly opt for SUVs like the Q5 or Q7 when looking for a large, practical family car. This shift has allowed the A6 to become more of a lifestyle product, focusing on style and driving dynamics.
Design & Styling
Mechanically, the A6 is similar to the A5 but larger, based on the same PPC platform with longitudinal engine placement. At launch, UK buyers can choose between a 2.0-litre petrol or diesel with Audi’s MHEV Plus system, which adds a 24bhp electric motor and a 1.7kWh battery. An S6 with a more powerful V6 is expected shortly, and a plug-in hybrid will follow, featuring a 140bhp motor and a 20.7kWh battery.
For £1755, buyers can opt for air suspension, which significantly improves ride quality. The interior features a familiar Audi design with dual or triple screens dominating the dashboard. While some materials feel nicer than in the A5, the gloss black plastic centre console remains smudge and scratch-prone.

MPG & Running Costs
Pricing is competitive, with the base Sport trim starting at £52,210. The S Line trim adds sportier styling inside and out. The adaptive air suspension and Sound & Vision Pack (£2965) are notable options. Company car drivers may prefer to wait for the tax-efficient PHEV version.
