BMW Kicks Off 2025 with Multiple Awards
BMW is off to a running start in 2025, celebrating a series of wins in prominent automotive competitions across Germany and the UK. The company’s success builds upon a strong 2024, where several models were recognized for their excellence.
German Recognition: “Best Cars” and “German Car of the Year”
In the “Best Cars” readers’ poll by the German car magazine auto motor und sport, two BMW model series secured first place in their respective categories. The BMW 2 Series Coupé claimed the top spot in the compact segment for the fourth consecutive year, with a noteworthy 13.2 percent of the votes. Similarly, the BMW X1 continued its winning streak by taking first place in the “Compact SUV/Off-road Vehicle” category, garnering 8.4 percent of the votes. Around 95,000 readers participated in the 49th edition of the prestigious awards.
These wins follow the BMW 5 Series being named the “German Car of the Year” at the close of 2024, as decided by a jury of 40 motoring journalists. The BMW 5 Series Sedan and Touring models gained praise for their driving dynamics, comfort, and diverse powertrain options, including plug-in hybrids and all-electric variants.
UK Triumphs at “What Car?” and Other Awards
BMW also experienced considerable success in the UK. The British car magazine What Car? presented three awards at its 2025 “Car of the Year Awards.” The BMW 4 Series repeated its victory in the “Best Coupé/Convertible” category, while the BMW M3 Touring was awarded “Best Performance Car.” Moreover, the BMW X7 also retained its “Best Luxury Car” title, mirroring its win from the previous year. These UK recognitions add to the brand’s global success.
In addition to the “What Car?” awards, the BMW 5 Series also received accolades from Fleet News magazine as the “Best Executive Car” and from Autocar, securing the “Autocar Award 2024” in the “Best Hybrid” category.

The new BMW 540d xDrive Touring won the coveted “Golden Steering Wheel” award in the “Executive Car” category, while the BMW 3 Series was recognized as the “Best Used Car”. All-electric BMW models were also recognized globally. The BMW i4 earned the “Canadian Electric Car of the Year,” for the second time. The i4, iX, and i7 were recognized in the United States by “Car and Driver” magazine. “Diesel&EcoCar” magazine named the BMW i5 as its “Best Electric Executive Car” and the BMW iX won in the “Best Electric Luxury SUV” category whilst the BMW i7 also won “Best Electric Luxury Car.” In Germany, the BMW i5 and iX1 also won at the “Auto Trophy Elektro.” This success emphasizes the importance of all-electric BMW models globally.
