BMW has officially confirmed that the next-generation iX3 SUV will be the initial release utilizing its innovative Neue Klasse technology. This announcement solidifies the direction of the brand’s electric vehicle strategy.
BMW’s vision for Neue Klasse has been hinted at by the Neue Klasse Vision X concept, which appears similar in size to the X3, and the original Neue Klasse concept, hinting at the subsequent all-electric 3 Series sedan. CEO Oliver Zipse revealed the news at BMW’s Annual Press Conference.
Zipse stated that the new iX3 would debut at the Munich Motor Show in September, emphasizing the significance of the new Neue Klasse technology for the BMW Group. “It’s a project that is unprecedented in both form and significance in the history of the BMW group. With the Neue Klasse we will be turning the mobility of the future into reality.” he said.
Standing next to a camouflaged version of the iX3, Zipse observed that the vehicle, “It will be a typical X model and a BMW through and through.”
Following the iX3’s unveiling, additional models built with Neue Klasse technology are slated for rapid release. The plans include a sporty sedan, pivotal to the BMW brand, scheduled for 2026.

Over the coming years, BMW intends to launch more than 40 new or upgraded models, ranging from electric and plug-in hybrid to combustion engine vehicles. These automobiles will all embody the Neue Klasse DNA, marked by a refined aesthetic demonstrated in the concept models.
“The Neue Klasse is BMW and BMW is the Neue Klasse,” said Zipse. “It marks the beginning of a completely new generation.”
Electric models on the Neue Klasse platform will incorporate 800-volt technology, promising up to a 30% increase in range, and 30% faster charging speeds to replenish up to an additional 186 miles in roughly 10 minutes. The vehicles will also offer bi-directional charging capabilities, making it possible to power a home. According to Zipse, costs are also projected to decrease on a range-to-range comparison basis.
Furthermore, models will have the new BMW Panoramic iDrive infotainment system and head-up display integrated across the entire windshield. They will be run by new on-board supercomputers featuring new AI capabilities and over-the-air updates.
Through a combination of reduced wiring and improved weight, new Neue Klasse-based models will obtain unparalleled levels of efficiency, drawing comparisons to Mercedes’ new CLA with its five miles per kWh claim. Zipse also described that models would have improved driving characteristics. “We’re taking driving dynamics to a whole new level,” said Zipse. “We’re pushing driving dynamics to its physical limits.”
