In a recent review of the BMW i5, the vehicle’s impressive performance and quiet operation left a lasting impression on both the reviewer and their teenage daughter. During a demonstration, the daughter remarked on the car’s ability to ‘whoosh’ by quietly, likening it to an assassin being ‘there and gone before you know it.’ The i5’s range was also noteworthy, averaging 248 miles per charge over the course of a year, surpassing the EPA’s estimate of 240 miles. In Edmunds’ EV Range Test, the vehicle performed even better, achieving 256 miles per charge. One of the i5’s standout features is its exceptionally quiet operation. According to the reviewer, the car’s sound decibel test numbers were impressive, measuring 65.5 db at 70 mph, only slightly louder than a gas-powered Mercedes E-Class, which recorded 62.6 db under the same conditions. At standstill, the i5 was quieter than the Mercedes E-Class, as expected given its electric powertrain. The quiet cabin makes it easy to converse with passengers or enjoy music without distraction.
