BMW Secures a Strong Start to 2025 with International Awards
BMW is celebrating a successful start to 2025, building on its achievements from the previous year. The company is starting the year off with numerous awards from prestigious automotive publications and organizations across the globe.
Accolades in Germany
In Germany, BMW models have once again proven popular with readers and experts alike. The BMW 2 Series Coupé took first place in the compact segment of the “Best Cars” readers’ poll in the German car magazine “auto motor und sport” for the fourth consecutive year. The BMW X1 also won the “Compact SUV/Off-road Vehicle” category as it did the prior year. Around 95,000 readers participated in the 49th edition of the “Best Cars” awards.
Adding to the success, BMW’s new 5 Series was recognized as the “German Car of the Year” for 2025 by a jury of motoring journalists. The BMW 5 Series Sedan and Touring models were particularly praised for their driving dynamics, long-distance comfort, and diverse powertrain options, including electric and hybrid models.
Additionally, the BMW 540d xDrive Touring won the coveted “Golden Steering Wheel” award in the “Executive Car” category and was also named “2024 Residuals Champion” by “Auto Bild” and “Schwacke,” indicating the lowest depreciation in its class.
BMW also secured a total of eight awards at the “Auto Trophy” event organized by “Auto Zeitung.” The BMW brand itself won “Best Brand” in the poll, and several models, including the 1 Series, 3 Series, X3, and X5, received top honors in their respective categories.
UK Success Stories
In the UK, BMW continued its winning trajectory at the “What Car?” magazine’s 2025 “Car of the Year Awards.” The BMW 4 Series was victorious in the “Best Coupé/Convertible” category, again, after its success in 2024. The BMW M3 Touring won the “Best Performance Car” title, repeating its previous year’s success. Complementing this, the BMW X7 took home the “Best Luxury Car” award for the second year in a row.
Furthermore, UK publication “Fleet News” recognized the BMW 5 Series as its “Best Executive Car,” and “Autocar” magazine presented the new BMW 5 Series with its “Autocar Award 2024” in the “Best Hybrid” category.
Global Recognition for Electric Vehicles
BMW’s all-electric models continue to garner significant international attention. The BMW i4 was named the “Canadian Electric Car of the Year” by the “Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.” In the United States, the BMW i4, iX, and i7 were featured on “Car and Driver’s” 2024 “Editors’ Choice” list. The i4 also received the “Zero-Emission Vehicle Award” (ZEVAS). The BMW i5 also collected awards in the UK as the “Best Electric Executive Car” and the BMW iX as the “Best Electric Luxury SUV” by “Diesel&EcoCar.” BMW’s all-electric models took home the “Best Electric Luxury Car” title.
In Germany, at the “Auto Trophy Elektro” event, the BMW i5 Sedan won in the electric sedan segment, and the BMW iX1 triumphed in the “Electric SUVs up to 50,000 euros” class. BMW also received the “Most Sustainable Brand” award at the “Auto Trophy Elektro” for the second year running.
Additional global honors include the BMW i5’s “Car of the Year 2024” award in Denmark and its recognition as the “Winter Car of the Year” in Finland. In the UK, the BMW i5 clinched the “Best Executive Car” title at the 2024 “Car of the Year Awards.”
Further Accolades in 2024
The BMW 3 Series secured multiple wins, including the “autonis Award” for best new design in the “Compact Executive” bracket, and the “Best Plug-in Hybrid Large Car” by “Diesel&EcoCar” magazine. The BMW 3 Series was also featured on “Car and Driver’s” 2024 “Editors’ Choice” list.
BMW also collected accolades in the “sport auto Award 2024” event, with the BMW Z4 M40i, BMW M240i Coupé xDrive, BMW M3 Competition, and BMW M4 Competition all taking top spots in their respective categories.
To cap it off, BMW’s Highway Assistant won the “Paul Pietsch Award” for the most important automotive innovation of the year, as determined by the expert jury of “auto motor und sport.”
