BMW Debuts Concept Speedtop at Villa d’Este
BMW has returned to the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como with another exclusive concept car, the Concept Speedtop. Last year’s Concept Touring Coupé, essentially a Z4 Shooting Brake, failed to enter production, but BMW has committed to building the Speedtop. However, it will be available only to the ultra-rich outside of America.
The Concept Speedtop shares design elements with last year’s Skytop concept, but instead of being a targa-like convertible, it’s a three-door wagon. BMW describes it as a “three-door interpretation of a BMW Touring.” The front features a shark-like nose with slim headlights and an illuminated kidney grille. The rear combines elements of the Z4 Shooting Brake with the Skytop’s taillights and large exhausts.

Under the hood lies “the most powerful V8 engine currently offered by BMW.” The interior, while luxurious, is largely based on the 8 Series, featuring last-gen iDrive and similar components like the steering wheel and center console. The back seat area has been modified with unique cubbies and straps for bespoke Schedoni luggage.

One of the Speedtop’s standout features is its trunk design. The shallow, luxurious luggage compartment has three longitudinal leather straps and wraparound LED lighting. The floor rises via gas struts to reveal a deeper storage area that extends into the cabin, perfect for storing items like skis and ski boots.

The Concept Speedtop is BMW’s favorite among the ‘shoe-shaped’ cars they’ve showcased at Lake Como. Limited to just 70 units, it won’t be available in the United States. While pricing hasn’t been announced, last year’s Skytop started at around $500,000, comparable to a Rolls-Royce Phantom. Despite the high price tag, the Speedtop is likely to sell out quickly due to its exclusivity.

Being a limited-edition model with a powerful V8 engine and luxurious features, the Concept Speedtop is sure to appeal to BMW’s wealthiest clientele. Its unique design, combined with its exclusivity, makes it a highly desirable collector’s item.
