Deadly Road Collision in Bolivia Claims 15 Lives
A tragic road accident in southern Bolivia has left at least 15 people dead and 19 injured after a pickup truck pushed a bus off the highway. The incident, reported on March 3, 2025, is the latest in a series of deadly crashes highlighting the dangers of Bolivia’s roadways.

According to local police reports, the injured passengers were swiftly transported to a hospital following the accident. This devastating crash comes just days after another collision involving two passenger buses in the same region, which resulted in the deaths of at least 37 people, including eight minors. Forty-one others were left injured in that incident.
Of those killed in the earlier bus collision, six were foreign nationals, including five Peruvians and a three-year-old German girl. Seven other minors also lost their lives. The combined loss of life in these recent tragedies underscores Bolivia’s ongoing struggle with road safety.
Bolivia’s mountainous terrain, combined with poor road maintenance and a lack of effective oversight, contributes to approximately 1,400 road fatalities annually. This places Bolivia among the countries with the most dangerous roads in the world. The nation has experienced a series of deadly crashes in recent months.
In February, over 30 people died when a bus plunged nearly 800 meters (2,625 feet) into a ravine between Potosí and Oruro, further illustrating the severe risks present on Bolivian highways.
