Boston Man Arrested in Vero Beach After Alleged Meth-Fueled Crash
VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Boston man was arrested in Vero Beach on Wednesday after allegedly crashing a pickup truck into a ditch while under the influence of methamphetamine.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reported that deputies responded to a car crash near 1916 15th Street Southwest in Vero Beach around 8:08 a.m. Upon arrival, they found an unoccupied GMC pickup truck in a ditch. As they were investigating the scene, deputies observed a man and a woman walking along the road.
A witness directed deputies to his driveway, where they found the suspected driver, identified as 38-year-old Gideon Rivera, attempting to leave. Deputies ordered Rivera to the ground and took him into custody. A search revealed keys belonging to the truck in his pocket, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Rivera allegedly denied being the driver, claiming the woman he was with was behind the wheel. Deputies noted that Rivera appeared to be under the influence and, when questioned, reportedly admitted to using “ICE,” a street name for methamphetamine. He claimed the woman was the one driving and that she gave him the keys.
Rivera was taken to the Cleveland Clinic for medical clearance before being transported to the Indian River County Jail. He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash and driving under the influence.
