Boston Man Arrested After Vero Beach Truck Crash
VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Boston man was arrested in Vero Beach on Wednesday after allegedly crashing a pickup truck into a ditch while under the influence of methamphetamine, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO).
Deputies responded to a car crash near 1916 15th Street Southwest in Vero Beach at approximately 8:08 a.m. Upon arriving, they found an unoccupied GMC pickup truck in a ditch. While investigating the crash scene, deputies observed a man and a woman walking along the road. A witness directed them to his driveway, where the suspected driver, identified as Gideon Rivera, 38, was attempting to leave.

IRCSO deputies took Rivera into custody and searched him, finding the truck keys in his pocket. However, Rivera initially denied being the driver, claiming the woman he was with was behind the wheel.
Deputies noted that Rivera appeared to be under the influence. When questioned, he allegedly admitted to using “ICE,” a street name for methamphetamine. He claimed the woman was driving and had given him the keys.
Rivera was taken to the Cleveland Clinic for medical clearance and then transported to the Indian River County Jail. He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash and driving under the influence, according to the IRCSO.
