BYD Announces Launch Date for Sealion 05 EV
BYD, a leading Chinese automaker, has announced that the Sealion 05 EV, the latest addition to its Ocean series of vehicles, will officially launch on March 25. The company has also released more images showcasing the electric SUV’s exterior design.

According to Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series sales division, the Sealion 05 EV will be built on a completely new technology platform and will come standard with the God’s Eye C smart driving system. This system is a DiPilot 100 solution, and the vehicle will also be equipped with a DiLink 100 smart cockpit.
Just last weekend, BYD shared a video on Weibo detailing some of the Sealion 05 EV’s exterior features. Zhang noted that the Sealion 05 EV will have a rear-drive architecture with a class-leading turning radius.
The Sealion 05 EV was previously listed in a regulatory catalog from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in December. The filing indicates the electric SUV will have dimensions of 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. These dimensions are slightly smaller than the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i, which measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,690/1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm. The Sealion 05 DM-i was launched on September 23, 2024, and utilizes BYD’s latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology.
The MIIT catalog entry also revealed that the Sealion 05 EV will be available in two versions, weighing 1,780 kg and 1,670 kg, respectively, and both capable of reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. Both variants will be powered by a single motor with peak power options of 140 kW and 160 kW. The vehicle will offer two range options with battery pack capacities of 50.048 kWh and 60.928 kWh, providing ranges of 430 km and 520 km, respectively.
