Hong Kong | Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled a groundbreaking new charging system for its electric vehicles (EVs). The company claims this technology will allow its cars to charge nearly as fast as gasoline-powered vehicles can refuel.
In tests conducted on its new Han L sedan, BYD’s new battery and charging system demonstrated the capability to add 400 kilometers (approximately 250 miles) of range in a mere five minutes. This announcement was made late Monday by Wang Chuanfu, chairman and founder of BYD. Vehicles equipped with this new technology are scheduled to go on sale next month.
This development marks a significant step forward in addressing one of the key concerns surrounding electric vehicle adoption: charging time. If successful, this rapid charging system could vastly improve the convenience and appeal of EVs, making them more competitive with traditional internal combustion engine cars.
