BYD to Equip Entire Vehicle Lineup with Advanced Self-Driving Tech
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is set to integrate its “God’s Eye” self-driving system across its whole range of cars. This step indicates the company’s ambitious plan to challenge Tesla and other key players in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
This innovative technology will also be available in BYD’s most budget-friendly model, the Seagull, which could make advanced driver-assistance systems accessible to a broader audience.
The “God’s Eye” system comes in three versions, each with varying capabilities depending on the vehicle’s positioning.
- The “God’s Eye A” version, featuring three LiDAR sensors, will be designed for BYD’s premium Yangwang brand.
- The mid-tier “God’s Eye B” system features one LiDAR unit and will be fitted to BYD’s Denza brand and flagship vehicles.
- The entry-level “God’s Eye C” uses 12 cameras and 12 ultrasonic radar sensors, offering highway autonomous navigation, with aspirations to expand to city streets.
All three versions will use DeepSeek AI, aiming to improve system capabilities. This development arrives shortly after the Chinese AI technology made notable waves in the financial markets.
BYD’s founder, Wang Chuanfu, during an event in Shenzhen, stated that the company is “starting an era where autonomous driving is for everyone.” He emphasized that advanced driver-assistance systems are “no longer an unattainable luxury, but an essential tool, like safety belts and airbags.” This represents a big shift for BYD, which, despite being China’s top EV producer, has been seen as falling behind in self-driving technology.
The integration of DeepSeek AI, according to analysts, will allow for enhanced in-car voice commands and improved artificial intelligence capabilities.
BYD’s announcement of the “God’s Eye” system resulted in a 21% increase in its Hong Kong-listed shares over five trading sessions.
According to S&P Global Mobility analyst Lu Daokuan, the system “filled the void” in the self-driving market for vehicles priced below £16,611.
BYD’s move puts considerable pressure on competitors, like Tesla. Lu Daokuan of S&P Global Mobility stated that BYD’s cars are leading competitors in both hardware specifications and smart-driving functions.
