Yangwang, the ultra-luxury sub-brand of BYD, is set to launch its new U7 luxury sedan on March 27. The launch event, scheduled for 7:30 pm Beijing time, will take place in Shenzhen, the city that serves as BYD’s global headquarters. The U7 is positioned as a flagship sedan, priced around 1 million yuan (approximately $138,000), and is expected to incorporate advanced technologies.

BYD announced Yangwang as their ultra-luxury brand on January 5, 2023, targeting the 1 million yuan price segment. The brand has already introduced the U8, an off-road SUV, and the U9 electric supercar. The U7, unveiled on January 10, 2024, is intended to be the flagship new energy sedan within this price range.
The U7’s specifications have been gradually revealed. It appeared in a regulatory catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on January 15, 2024, indicating the vehicle will be powered by four permanent magnet synchronous motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW. The U7 made its real-world debut at the Beijing auto show in late April 2024.
Pre-sales for the U7 commenced on November 15, 2024, during the Guangzhou auto show, but pricing details were not yet available at that time. Both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants of the U7 are being offered, with a 20,000 yuan deposit required to reserve a vehicle. The BEV version is equipped with a 135.5 kWh battery pack, a high-performance blade battery exclusive to the model. This battery is capable of a peak discharge current of 1,700 A and a CLTC range of 720 kilometers, according to Yangwang.
Earlier in March, Yangwang showcased the U7’s capabilities with the DiSus-Z body control system. DiSus is a body control system introduced by BYD in April 2023, with DiSus-Z representing the highest-end branch of the system. The DiSus-Z system has completed development and testing and will be incorporated into the U7.
