The mantra ‘Buying Canadian’ has gained significant traction over the past few weeks, and for good reason. As the child of an auto worker, I can attest to the positive impact that purchasing Canadian-made vehicles has on our economy. It creates stable jobs, supports middle-class families, and provides young people with prosperous futures.
When it comes to supporting the Canadian economy through vehicle purchases, there are several key factors to consider. Although there are currently no Canadian-owned automakers, five global automakers have manufacturing facilities in Canada, along with parts manufacturers and smaller producers in peripheral industries. While no car is completely tariff-proof due to the complex nature of parts movement during assembly, choosing a Canadian-built vehicle protects jobs and directly contributes to the country’s economy.
