Popular Electric Car Gets an Update in China
An updated version of the MG4 has been revealed by Chinese regulators. While the new model retains the familiar proportions of the current MG4, it appears to be larger, and, surprisingly, it features a less powerful 120kW motor compared to the existing 125kW base model. It’s also approximately 150kg lighter, which may point to a smaller battery and a lower entry price point.

Interestingly, MG has filed the vehicle under various names, including MG4, E5, and MG3EV, which may be a strategy to either cause confusion or offer flexible options. In contrast to Australia, where prices as low as $30,000 have driven robust sales of the MG4, the model struggles in its home market, where it lacks the advanced technology of rival vehicles.
New Hilux GR Sport Revealed in Renders!
Digital artist Theottle has created exclusive renders showcasing the potential design of the next-generation Toyota HiLux GR Sport. The renders include headlights and a fascia inspired by Toyota’s new “Hammerhead” front end design, as well as fresh taillights, giving the wide-body GR Sport a tougher appearance.
The mid-body design appears largely unchanged. The current eighth-generation ute’s IMV ladder frame underpinnings, wheelbase, and central body section are anticipated to remain. Moreover, the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine is likely to be carried over, with a strong hybrid system unlikely. A late 2025 release is the expected timeline.
Former Holden Employee to Transform Chinese Cars
GWM has initiated an Australian ride and handling program, led by ex-Holden chassis wizard Rob Trubiani. Following trends set by Hyundai and Kia, Chinese carmaker GWM is investing in improving its products for both domestic and global markets. Trubiani brings over 20 years of vehicle dynamics experience, and was the lead engineer at Holden for nearly 15 years during the production of the VE Commodore.
Peugeot’s 5008 Returns as Nissan X-Trail Rival
Peugeot has announced that its new medium-large 5008 SUV will be returning to Australia in a hybrid variant. The new three-row model uses the same underpinnings as the smaller 3008 and boasts a 21-inch curved cockpit display and i-Toggle switches. With all seats in place, the boot space provides 348 litres, while in ‘van’ mode, the space expands to 2242L. Powering the vehicle is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with 107kW, supplemented by a 21kW electric motor. The 5008 drives its front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Ford Ranger Review
Contributor Zak Adkkins reviews his three-month, 5000km experience with a Ford Ranger Sport V6. He was pleased with the V6’s performance, comfortable ride, user-friendly climate controls, and responsive touchscreen. However, he noted issues with the high price, fuel consumption, and the transmission calibration.
