Numerous cars and small vans are being recalled in France and other European countries amid concerns about fire and injury risks to drivers. Vehicles from Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, and Opel are affected, along with certain Lexus and Toyota models.
The recalls are due to a variety of issues:
- Faulty ground connections, or les connexions au sol, which increase the risk of fire and malfunctions.
- Problems with car batteries.
- Incorrectly welded cameras. Front and rear cameras (used for parking assistance, etc.) have been found improperly attached, allowing water to enter and potentially cause short circuits. This can lead to camera failure.
- Also increasing the risk of accidents and injury via the cameras displaying a faulty or blank image possibly creating a fire hazard.
Alerts were initially issued by the EU Safety Gate website, which oversees the recall of non-food products throughout the bloc. France’s national recall website, RappelConso, has also issued its own notices for drivers in France.
Specific production dates for the affected vehicles are not provided.
