A Charlotte man, Terrick D. Lumpkin, has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for his involvement in a luxury vehicle theft ring. The 39-year-old pleaded guilty in October to conspiracy charges related to the theft of vehicles worth over $1 million. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western North Carolina, Lumpkin’s criminal activities took place between November 2023 and January 2024, during which he and his co-conspirators stole high-end vehicles from various states including North Carolina, Illinois, and New York.

The stolen vehicles included brands such as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, and Jeep. Notably, some of the vehicles recovered from Lumpkin’s possession were stolen from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. To conceal the vehicles’ identities, the thieves altered or removed the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).

Court documents revealed that Lumpkin frequently stored the stolen vehicles in the parking garage of his apartment complex. He was also found in possession of tools used in the conspiracy, including a key fob programmer box and blank key fobs. In addition to his prison sentence, Lumpkin has been ordered to serve two years under court supervision upon his release.

Lumpkin is currently free on release and will be required to report to a federal prison facility once designated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William Bozin.

This case is part of a larger investigation into luxury vehicle thefts. In August 2023, five individuals were indicted for stealing high-end vehicles from dealerships across the United States. Two more were indicted in November 2023 for orchestrating similar thefts in South Carolina.
