Two Trucks, 1,200 Miles, and a Whole Lot of Trouble

When a Chicago-based DIY enthusiast decided to purchase two trucks located 1,200 miles away, the plan seemed straightforward: drive them back home. However, as often happens with ambitious projects, a few unexpected problems arose, transforming the journey into a saga of mechanical failures and resourceful problem-solving.

This individual, known for his automotive endeavors on the YouTube channel “Legit Street Cars,” set out to acquire a GMC Typhoon and a Ford Super Duty F350. The intention was to use the Ford to tow the Typhoon back to Chicago, but the plan quickly went awry.

The Ford, unfortunately, was not up for the long haul and developed mechanical issues that made it impossible to drive the vehicle back to Chicago.

The Ford Super Duty, which has received positive reviews online, proved unreliable in this instance, and the drive back barely began before it experienced mechanical failures.

With the Ford out of commission, the creator found himself stranded. Attempts to locate a repair shop proved fruitless. After finding a shop that could not perform the work, the creator faced another setback when a second tow vehicle also failed. Frustrated but undeterred, the creator turned to social media, describing his predicament and eventually receiving help from a U-Haul employee.

Ultimately, the Typhoon was successfully towed home by a U-Haul truck, concluding the DIY project.

This experience serves as a reminder that even the best-laid plans can go awry, particularly when dealing with older vehicles and long-distance travel. While the journey may not have been as smooth as anticipated, the creator’s resourcefulness and determination ultimately prevailed, bringing the GMC Typhoon back to Chicago.
