Cocoa Man Dies in Port St. John Crash
PORT ST. JOHN, FL – A 76-year-old man from Cocoa died Saturday night following a vehicle crash in Port St. John.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesperson, the incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Fay Boulevard near Deer Lane. The man’s van veered off the road for reasons still under investigation.
The vehicle first struck a mailbox and a speed limit sign before hitting another mailbox. The van then continued southwest, veering to the right. It struck a lattice fence and a 2007 Chevy Impala that was parked in a driveway, finally crashing into a house. The vehicle came to a stop in the driveway.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Investigators suspect that he was not wearing a seat belt.
Two people were inside the home at the time of the crash but were not injured. However, the impact of the van caused the garage door to strike two additional parked vehicles.
The FHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
