Tanker Truck Fire on I-270: Police Seek Black Pickup Truck Owner
The Columbus Division of Police is looking for the owner of a black pickup truck believed to be involved in a tanker truck fire on I-270 this weekend. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the black pickup truck allegedly lost control and struck a tractor tanker trailer carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel.
According to police, the collision caused the tanker trailer to flip over and ignite a fire. The driver of the tanker was treated for minor injuries at Riverside Hospital. However, the owner of the black pickup truck fled the scene without stopping or assisting the tanker driver.
The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday as the tanker trailer was traveling south on I-270 and preparing to exit onto State Route 161 eastbound. The impact caused the tanker to hit a guardrail before flipping over, resulting in the fire. This led to the closure of I-270, which was later reopened early Monday morning after the roadway was deemed safe.
Police are urging anyone with information about the driver of the black pickup truck to contact the Accident Investigation Unit at (614) 645-4767. Those who wish to remain anonymous can reach out to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-8477.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
