A young couple faced arrest on Monday, April 21, after a dramatic incident involving a stolen stop sign. According to the Monroe County sheriff’s report, Sgt. Wade Kendrick was on the lookout for a gold Ford F-150 with a stop sign in its bed around 8 p.m. The search ended near Domino’s Pizza on North Lee Street where Kendrick and Deputy Christopher Marsh spotted the vehicle.
The driver, Donald Anthony Fulwood, 30, of Forsyth, was arrested after telling Kendrick that he was driving while his passenger, Savanna Shaylee Stone, 24, of Jasper, had taken the stop sign. Stone was uncooperative at first, refusing to identify herself. Both were charged with theft by taking government property.
The incident began when the stop sign fell from the pickup truck in a busy intersection. Kendrick found the sign, complete with its post and anchor, and removed it from the road. Fulwood was also cited for having an unsecured load. The City of Forsyth was notified about the missing stop sign, which had been taken from a Tift College Drive intersection. A witness reported seeing the couple pull up the sign before throwing it into their truck bed.
