Dacia’s Affordable Electric City Car is on the Way
Good news for budget-conscious drivers! Dacia is working on a new, super-affordable electric city car. This news comes straight from the horse’s mouth – Renault Group boss Luca de Meo announced the plans, confirming the car will be priced under €18,000, which translates to less than £15,000.

This new EV is aiming to shake things up in the market, with the promise of being the fastest developed product from the Renault Group. It’s not about outright speed on the road, it’s about the development speed. Dacia plans to get this new EV ready for production in a mere 16 months. To put that into perspective, the Renault Twingo took 21 months to develop, showing how quickly Renault can move.
This new model, referred to internally as the “Tinyster,” is likely to share its platform with the Renault Twingo. The Twingo’s innovative design, particularly its reduced parts count (30% fewer parts than the Renault 5), has streamlined production, making it cheaper to build. The new Dacia is projected to be 40% less expensive to build than the Renault 5, using only about 750 parts.

Dacia already has a small EV called the Spring, which is known for its affordability. It remains to be seen whether this new Tinyster will join the Spring in the Dacia lineup or replace it altogether. Considering this new model is still in the early stages of development, a replacement seems more likely.
