DETROIT – Detroit police are alerting residents to a recent surge in thefts targeting newer Dodge Ram pickup trucks. According to a police statement released on Tuesday, March 4, a group of thieves is actively stealing infotainment systems and other valuables from the vehicles.
Authorities have noted that the crew is primarily focused on the east side of Detroit, with incidents reported as recently as 2 a.m. on Tuesday in Harper Woods. In response to the uptick in thefts, police are offering advice to residents to help deter these crimes.
Residents are strongly advised to:
- Lock their vehicles at all times.
- Avoid leaving any valuables visible inside the vehicles.
- If possible, park vehicles in a garage or a fenced area.
- Keep exterior house lights on to enhance visibility.
- Monitor any surveillance systems to assist in the prevention of theft.
Additionally, law enforcement officials are reminding residents that vehicles are not a secure place to store firearms and advise against leaving guns in cars overnight.
This warning comes as part of local efforts to increase community awareness and help residents protect themselves from criminals.
