President Donald Trump has declared he will purchase a new Tesla electric vehicle, signaling his confidence in and support for Elon Musk. The announcement comes as Tesla faces criticism and a decline in its stock value.
Trump shared his decision on Truth Social, where he thanked Musk for his efforts with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
He wrote: “To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!” Trump added that “the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s ‘baby,’ in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for.”
Trump stated that his purchase of a Tesla is “a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American.” The former president’s announcement follows reports of a drop in Tesla’s market capitalization. Concerns have been raised about Musk’s affiliation with right-wing figures.
In the hours following Trump’s social media post, Elon Musk has been reposting supportive comments on X (formerly Twitter). He also re-shared a video from August 2024 of Donald Trump in a Tesla Cybertruck. In the video, Trump praised the vehicle’s sound system.
