TORNILLO, Texas — A 25-year-old American woman was arrested at the Tornillo border crossing on Friday after a drug-sniffing dog discovered 28.5 pounds of cocaine hidden in her pickup truck. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. when the dog detected 14 foil-wrapped bundles of cocaine concealed inside the wheel well and dashboard of a 2013 Nissan Titan.
The woman, who was driving alone, was subsequently turned over to the Texas Department of Public Safety to face state charges related to the drug smuggling attempt. CBP Marcelino Serna Port Director Eric Fernandez praised the successful operation, stating, “This is a significant amount of cocaine that did not reach its intended destination. Every drug load that CBP stops plays a role in keeping our communities and neighbors safe.”
