Elderly Woman Dies in Two-Truck Crash in Iron County
SALT LAKE CITY – An elderly woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a Tuesday crash involving two pickup trucks on State Route 56 in Iron County, Utah, according to authorities.
Lt. Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred when a Toyota pickup truck, traveling northbound on 5300 West, attempted a left turn onto S.R. 56, crossing the path of a northbound Dodge pickup truck.
According to Roden, the passenger in the Dodge pickup, an elderly woman, sustained “significant life-threatening injuries.” She was transported to a hospital via medical helicopter. Sadly, Roden confirmed that the woman passed away from her injuries on Wednesday.
The driver of the Dodge, a man in his 30s, received treatment at the scene but was not transported to a hospital. The driver of the Toyota, an elderly man, was taken to a hospital immediately after the crash with minor injuries.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that a section of the highway was closed following the crash.
