Police in Woodridge, a southwest suburb of Chicago, are investigating a fatal incident where an electric car crashed into a home and subsequently caught fire, resulting in at least two deaths and one injury.
The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday in the 2400 block of Kildeer, according to a press release from the Village of Woodridge. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that a vehicle had collided with the residence, with both the car and a portion of the home engulfed in flames.
Woodridge officials confirmed that two individuals inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no one inside the home sustained any injuries.
Video footage and photographs from the scene depict a severely damaged car lodged within a structure, with flames visible as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze. The aftermath shows the electric car completely destroyed. Debris from the crash was scattered across the yard and spread for approximately a block, NBC Chicago’s Lisa Chavarria reported, also noting significant damage to the home.
The village has stated that an investigation is currently underway. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
