A child under the age of 10 was struck by a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon after disembarking from a school bus in the Buckhall area of Manassas, according to police.
The incident occurred around 4:26 p.m. near the intersection of Moore Drive and Slagle Lane. Master Police Officer Renee Carr, a spokeswoman for Prince William County police, reported that the child was hit by a Ford F-150 truck. The student was subsequently transported to a local hospital and is currently recovering from injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Carr confirmed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the child was struck shortly after exiting the bus. As the bus began to move from the stop, the child paused in the roadway. At that moment, the Ford F-150, which was turning from Moore Drive onto Slagle Lane, struck the child, Carr said.
The driver of the Ford F-150 remained at the scene following the accident. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time, according to Carr.
Police utilized drones in the immediate aftermath of the crash to collect evidence at the scene, Carr noted.
