The Everything Electric show, held in Sydney last weekend, has been hailed by organizers as a “watershed moment” for the electric vehicle (EV) industry in Australia. The event saw a record-breaking 31,069 attendees over three days. An impressive 6,402 test drives were conducted.
This was the third annual Everything Electric show in Sydney. A second Australian show is planned for Melbourne in November. The event organizers also host similar shows in the UK, Canada, the US, and Europe.
At the Sydney event, over 35 EV manufacturers displayed their vehicles, and a total of 120 participants showcased home and transport technologies.
“Everything Electric gave the lie to those that cast doubt on consumer interest in electric vehicles,” said Dan Caesar, CEO of Fully Charged, the company behind the show, in a statement. “The show ‘caught fire’ on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Sydney Showground”.
Caesar added, “Even though we’ve been delivering these shows for the best part of a decade, and all over the world, this felt like the watershed moment we’ve been waiting for. The beginning of ‘early mainstream’ uptake of EVs, as the cost savings – which Australia’s EVC estimates as $3,000 per annum and $11,200 over total ownership per car – becomes clear. The influx of newer car makers, with incredibly compelling tech-laden cars, is also having a huge influence on buying behaviors.”
The Everything Electric Show is scheduled to return to Sydney next March and will feature an expansion of its non-EV showcase.
“Evidence shows that once consumers go electric, more than 9 out of 10 never go back, and they then start to investigate other electrification options,” Caeser noted. “As a show that offers ‘everything electric’ – including energy tariffs, home chargers, away-from-home charging providers, boards, bikes, motorbikes, boats, utes, vans and even trucks – the array of visitor attractions brings in a bigger and bigger number of relevant consumers. And we haven’t even mentioned the most exciting aspect for Australian’s the bidirectional bonanza that vehicle to grid will bring.”
