Exotic Car Driving Experience on Long Island
For those seeking an adrenaline rush, Velocity Driving offers a unique opportunity to get behind the wheel of exotic cars on Long Island. The company hosts periodic events where participants can drive or ride as passengers in high-performance vehicles such as Porsches, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis.
Philip Policastro, a 51-year-old Metropolitan Transportation Authority supervisor from Patchogue, recently took advantage of this experience. Having driven a Tesla Model 3 daily, Policastro decided to drive a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS at one of Velocity Driving’s events held in the Nassau County Veterans Memorial Coliseum parking lot. The event featured an off-road course set up with cones, allowing participants to test the limits of various exotic cars.
“I’ve always loved Porsches,” Policastro said after his drive. “I felt it was time to finally drive one.” His wife’s recent cancer diagnosis had made him acutely aware of the preciousness of each moment, prompting him to take time for this exhilarating experience.
The event allowed participants to drive their chosen exotic car for several laps around the course. Colby Christensen, Velocity Driving’s event manager, explained that the experience typically costs around $70 and up, with participants able to purchase photos and videos of their drive.
“It’s a good memory,” Christensen said. “You can tell people you drove the car and they’ll believe you.” The experience is likened to a roller coaster ride, with eight laps taking approximately 15 minutes.
Bill Cardinale, a 69-year-old from Massapequa, described the experience as feeling “like I was 17 again, illegally turning in a parking lot.” He traded his black Cadillac for a Porsche GT4 RS during the event and enjoyed the thrill of driving at high speeds.
To participate, drivers must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license. Those under 18 can join as passengers with a professional driver. The vehicles available for driving have included a Lamborghini Huracan Evo, Ferrari 488 Spider, McLaren Artura Spider, and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
Upcoming Long Island events are scheduled for June 14-15, September 13-14, and November 1-2. Interested individuals can visit VelocityDriving.com for more information and to sign up.
The experience offers a unique blend of excitement and temporary escape from daily routines. As Policastro noted, “They give you an exhilaration that you don’t get in many other ways.”
