The family of Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old charged with murder, enjoyed an opulent lifestyle before his arrest. Drew Anthony, Karmelo’s father, shared photos and videos on Facebook showing their luxurious vacations and expensive purchases.
The Anthony Family’s Luxurious Lifestyle
Drew Anthony routinely posted about their lavish experiences, including a cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas and an anniversary celebration in Las Vegas. In one video, he boasted about their accommodations, saying, ‘Cause I’m a gold member, I get special treatment, you dig.’

The family was seen enjoying fine dining, with Karmelo munching on lamb chops during a family dinner. They also posed with new luxury vehicles, including a Lexus with a red bow.
The Tragic Incident
Karmelo was arrested on April 2 for allegedly stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas. According to police, the confrontation began when Austin told Karmelo to move to the designated area for his school. Karmelo allegedly responded with threats before pulling out a knife and stabbing Austin in the chest.

Austin died in his twin brother’s arms, and Karmelo was charged with murder. Karmelo’s family has faced backlash, including death threats, and has denied receiving the funds raised from an online fundraiser.
Aftermath and Family’s Response
Karmelo’s mother, Kala Hayes, tearfully addressed the criticism, stating that her family has not seen any of the donations and begged for privacy during the investigation. The family was involved in a tense standoff with Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, at a news conference.
The case has sparked controversy, with many criticizing the Anthony family’s perceived wealth and privilege. Karmelo was released on $250,000 bond and placed under house arrest.
