Fatal Crash at Perrine Bridge Claims One Life
JEROME, Idaho — A tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a green Ford Ranger pickup truck crashed through a fence at the scenic overlook on southbound U.S. Highway 93, just before reaching Perrine Bridge. The vehicle plummeted into the Snake River Canyon below, coming to rest near a rock embankment shortly before the river.
The crash, which happened around 3:30 p.m., resulted in the death of the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. According to an Idaho State Police press release, the cause of the crash remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
Law enforcement officials from multiple agencies, including the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Twin Falls Police Department, and Idaho State Police, responded to the scene. The scenic overlook on southbound U.S. Highway 93 has been closed, as has the boat launch at Centennial Park, to facilitate access for emergency responders and investigators. However, the highway itself remains open, and recreators can still access the river at Centennial Park, though the area surrounding the crash site is cordoned off.
The Idaho State Police is seeking any witnesses or individuals with video footage of the incident to contact their District 4 Office at 208-324-6000. This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
