Ferrari is gearing up for its electric future, with the first glimpses of its EV being spotted at an Ionity charging station in Europe. This testing mule, possibly hinting at a crossover, has been turning heads.
Another test mule was recently captured undergoing winter testing in Northern Europe. The vehicle is slated to be among the brand’s first new offerings since the F80 hypercar debuted last October.
The timing is interesting. Ferrari is set to unveil its first electric vehicle on October 9th, at the brand’s Capital Market’s Day event. The mule was photographed alongside a Volvo FH during charging, a somewhat unusual pairing, though both represent high-end EVs.
Based on current sightings, the mule appears to be loosely based on the Ferrari Purosangue or Maserati Levante SUV. This suggests the production model could be a hatchback-like crossover.
While the vehicle’s external design is still preliminary the extended fender flares suggest that the EV will have a wide track. Notably, the test model has staggered wheels, with 23-inch wheels in the front and 24-inch wheels in the rear. Another design cue is the roof-mounted shark fin antenna. This component appeared to flash green or red at times, potentially working as a charge status indicator, though this is speculation. The door handles are also mock-ups, with the doors opening by a button. A Combined Charging System (CCS) port can also be seen, alongside glimpses of the cargo area.
Ferrari has kept details about its upcoming EV under wraps. The company has partnered with battery supplier SK On and inaugurated its e-building last summer. The facility will manufacture the company’s upcoming EV models alongside those with hybrid and internal combustion engines. At the time of the e-building’s announcement, the automaker mentioned new electric motors that would be “capable of delivering Ferrari’s signature driving excitement.”
