The first-generation MG4 made a splash in the electric vehicle market, but MG isn’t resting on its laurels. The company has completely redesigned its popular EV, and these photos offer an early glimpse of the next-generation MG4.

The new MG4 represents a significant departure from its predecessor, with a completely new design that extends beyond mere cosmetic updates to the lights and bumpers. Data indicates that the new model is subtly larger than the current one. It measures 4,395 mm (173 inches) long, 1,842 mm (72.5 inches) wide, and 1,551 mm (61 inches) tall. The wheelbase is 2,750 mm (108.2 inches). This translates to a 108 mm (4.2 inches) increase in length, 6 mm (0.2 inches) in width, and 35 mm (1.3 inches) in height compared to the outgoing model. The wheelbase gains 45 mm (1.7 inches).

The front end of the new MG4 is strikingly different. Gone are the sharp lines of the previous generation, replaced by a design that emphasizes creases, curves, and fewer straight lines. The new model boasts redesigned headlights, a different grille, updated quarter panels, and a modified hood. The designers have also crafted new door skins for the electric hatchback. The photos reveal the vehicle equipped with new 16- and 17-inch wheels.

The rear end has also undergone a transformation, with a light bar, unique taillights, and a redesigned bumper. The taillights have a distinct lighting signature, resembling an arrow, and appear to draw inspiration from the Cyberster.

Powering the new MG4 is a single electric motor that produces 161 hp (120 kW), enabling a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h). While the outgoing model’s base configuration offered 168 hp (125 kW), the new model’s lighter weight, approximately 3,237 lbs (1,485 kg) compared to the older model’s 3,617 lbs (1,641 kg), should lead to improved performance. It is expected that a dual-motor XPower version will be introduced soon.
In China, the MG4, while initially successful, has seen a decline in sales. After an initial launch in mid-2022, the brand delivered more than 5,000 units monthly, but sales have dropped. Only 13 examples were sold in February in its home market.
